Subject: [pignet] News Release: PFnet is in top five in UNESCO competition

The People First Network project is one of five projects worldwide to be
pre-selected as finalist for the 2004 IPDC Rural Communication Prize.

The competition is run by the International Programme for the Development of
Communications, based at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organisation, UNESCO.

The winner will be announced on March 31st and the prize of USD 25,000 will
be presented to the winner in Paris.

The prize is awarded every two years to a person, group of people or one or
more institutions or organizations for "their particularly meritorious and
innovative actions aimed at improving communication and facilitating the
participation of rural populations, especially in developing countries, in
the economic, cultural and social life of their countries."

PFnet wishes to thank the Ministry of Education who facilitated the entry of
PFnet into the competition during their visit to Paris last year.
